BuildBook has elevated Change Orders by enabling the creation of detailed line items, complete with cost codes, markup, tax, and additional elements. This information is presented in a new "document-style" layout, enhancing your professional image when presenting to clients.
Create a Change Order
Change Orders are located in the Financials section of your project.
Create a change order by clicking + Add Change Order button.
Within the change order you'll see the following sections that are customizable:
Title & Description
Enter the title of the change order to quickly denote what change order is for. You can add additional details in the description that will show up beneath the title when you go to your Change Orders tab.
From
Your company name and address appear in the Payable To section, which comes directly from your Company Settings (https://buildbook.co/team). Clicking Edit will take you to these settings.
Keep in mind that any changes made in Company Settings apply not only to the invoice but to other areas of BuildBook including the Client Dashboard and Portfolio.
To
Choose an existing contact, create a new contact, or edit an existing contact from the Bill To section. This automatically populates with the first client found on the project.
Add Someone - click the Add Someone link. Then choose from existing contacts under the People dropdown.
Add Someone New - Click the Add Someone link and choose the Add Someone New link beneath the People dropdown.
Edit an existing contact - Once someone is added under Bill To you can edit their contact information by clicking Edit underneath their name.
Remove - Once someone is added under Bill To you can remove them by clicking Remove underneath their name.
Date and Due Date
The Date is the date the change order was prepared. The Due Date is the date the change order needs to be paid.
Add Line Items
To build your change order, add line items by clicking + Add Item.
Line Items can include:
Name
Cost Code
Type
Description
Quantity
Unit Cost
Markup
Tax
If tax is checked, the change order item will use the tax setting from the project budget to calculate the tax. If "Do not tax" is set in the budget, the tax checkbox will be disabled.
Add as many Line Items as needed to build the change order.
Share a Change Order
When you're ready to share the Change Order, click the blue Share Change Order button and choose to Email Change Order, Copy Link to Change Order, Download PDF, or Print the Change Order.

Copy Link to Change Order
When you copy a link it creates a unique URL for you to share with your client so they can view the Change Order online, without needing to be logged into their account or download a PDF.
Client Visibility
You can customize which item details you would like to share in your Change Order, including:
Categories (this is only applicable from the "Detailed" Total vs. the "Summary" Total
Category Totals
Individual Line Items
Descriptions
Price
Qty, Unit Price
Just click the "Client Visibility" dropdown in the upper left corner of the Change Order Preview, choose the items to display, and click "Apply Changes."
There are two options to display the total:
1. Summary with lump costs, taxes, and fees in a single total sum:
2. Detailed with costs, taxes, and fees as separate line items in the subtotal
Delete a Change Order
To delete a Change Order, click the changer order name to open it. Then click the ellipsis menu in the upper right and select Delete Change Order.
